courtesy lights
When I open the door on my 96, neither the courtesy lights down low or the lights on the mirror come on. The lights on the mirror can be switched on with the switch on the mirror. Is ther some way that is negating courtesy lights coming on?

RE: courtesy lights
Not sure there, emd, but I'd unscrew the contact button in the door jamb, andput a multimeter on it for 12V.
If you got voltage there, thenthe switch is bad or it has dirt in the contact. UNLESS, there's a second wire at the switch for a remote ground. In that case, see if it will carry current. If not, there's the problem. |
RE: courtesy lights
Switch can't be at fault because the two lights behind the seats come on when the door is opened.

RE: courtesy lights
What do you get if you turn on the main interior light switch???
|
RE: courtesy lights
Only the cargo area lights come on
|
RE: courtesy lights
So your courtesy lamps don't come on under ANY circumstances?

RE: courtesy lights
CWB probably has much better and more thorough information than I do but just trying to help. So here goes...how about the two on the bottom of the mirror? Will the door lights come on at their indigenous switches. Ifneither door comes on but the rest do, it seems as though either both lights blew at the same time(possible but not probable) or a short/break in the wiring, perhaps right at the switch. Trace the wires back from the two doors and look for a bare spot. Good place is at the hinge point and any where it goes through a body panel. good luck with it. Cheers.

They only come on with ignition on and you flip switch on the mirror. Ya' gotta' find the common feed for the two courtesy lamps (unless you're lucky, and they're both burnt). I don't think there's a relation between the mirror light, and the courtesy lamps. Possible, but I'm not knowin' it. Start on the power source for the courtesy lamps. It looks like haynes diagram has the console glove box light on the same feed (but with a different ground) as the courtesy lamps. Does yours work? |
RE: courtesy lights
what about the bulbs?
|
RE: courtesy lights
Okay, here we go.
The lights ain't gettin' power, or they ARE gettin' power, and thecircuit for both of them ain't groundin' out, OR BOTH. According to this diagram, those two lights come on by the circuit groundin' out3 ways: the headlight switch, the driver's door, or the passenger door - see thepurple circles. All 3 did not fail. If they did, buy a lottery ticket. Both bulbs did not fail (did they?) Nor did the power feed for both fail. If they did, see an exorcist, cause according to the diagram, that 's impossible. . That leaves only one point where there's a common link - the blue/green circle. That HAS TO be where the break is. |
RE: courtesy lights
Turns out that it was the fuse. Everything now works properly. Thanks to all for the help.

RE: courtesy lights
Yes thats true, that's why I never thought it was the fuse. When I pulled out the blown fuse, the cargo lights stayed on.

RE: courtesy lights
Thats interesting.Either way, I'm glad you got everything working. ;)

RE: courtesy lights
ORIGINAL: rshiver Thats interesting. The wiring diagram is probably wrong - it's from the Hayne's book. But still - two different fuses for interior lights??? |
