Crane cams timing chain does not fit
Hey everyone ! I have this L98 in my vette , undergoing some overhaul now . Thing is I ordered Crane Cams timing chain and sprockets.
It is a double row chain , friend advised me to go with it (life span longer , easier for engine to rotate it -> rollers , bla bla )
I checked 3 different catalogues , and I got exact the same number of product , that those catalogues state for my L98 ,91 vette .
Well , it DOES NOT fit
Cam sprocket sits , seems , on right . Because I see the thrust washer bolts behind it almost touching the sprocket , some 2 mm between.
Crank sprocket sits against the crank and it is off line , cannot put the chain on , it would be at an angle .
If I turn the sprocket with the marks towards the block then it is all good an nice , both sprockets are in line , but timing I guess goes to hell.
Is it possible that they at Crane cams put different set in my box is it some bad product , or maybe you cannot install it on L98...
I am waiting now for the new set , but what if it comes the same ...

If the next one is the same, I would ditch it and go back to single roller chain. With metal gears and not real high performance engine, that setup will last you as long as you need it to. [8D]
