Default dash blackout

Hey, im new to this forum and hope this is going in the right place. I am 17 years old and my uncle passed away in 2000 leaving his 1986 (slightly modified) to me. I just got the thing out and running FINALLY! The dash will not stop blacking out. It will turn on and off on and off....i am not familiar with corvettes (just imports) and am wondering if anybody else has delt with this problem? What are some possibilities? Pretty sure it's a short but cant find it. Any other possibilities?

You probably have some cold solder joints on the board. Check out this site: Dash Repair. [8D]

who rebuilds the instrument "panel, guages, cluster" i think you know what i mean. Sounds like i need it resoldered. The cheapest i have seen is Ecklers at like 600 dollars! I have heard of 300 dollar rebuilds but where and who?

I went through my local dealer, they use a place in Houston that used to be called Zener Electronics, although they changed names and I can't remember what they changed it to. I paid around 500.00 for it too. []

That's the way things are with Corvette's. EVERYTHING is more expensive just because it's a Corvette.

Go to the site, dash repair, as advised by mech259,print out these instructions, and take them to a buddy who tinkers with electronics, or better still, your neighborhood electronics shop and ask them if they can do this. This is a very detailed description on removing dash from the car, disassembling the dash, repairing, and reassembling. I have a friend who works on cnc machines at work, and he said it should be easy. He hasn't had time to do it yet, but when he does and if it works I'll let you know. Bryan knows what he's talking about on this.

Don't know anything about this outfit. Might be worth checking.
