Distributor rotor screws

Can someone tell me what kind and size of head is on the rotor screws. I am changing the water pump and capa nd rotor on my 95.I'm at a standstill right now. Looks like a small torx head but i can't get a bit to fit,and I have them all.Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

It's a Torx E4 deep socket. I got mine at the Auto Parts store. I think Vulcan is the brand. You might want to try Snap-on.
I just looked it up in the Snap-on catalog-It's a 1/4" drive deep Torx socket E4
Part # STLE40

How many miles are on the opti that you put a new cap and rotor on? Why in the world would you just do a cap and rotor when you already had the water pump offand the engine tore down? If your going that deep you might as well do a whole new opti. Spend the extra cash and get a whole new opti instead of spending a couple hundred bucks fopr a cap and rotor which you will probably have to go back and put a whole new opti on sooner more than later. Just replacing the cap and rotor is a waste of time and money........

I have 73000 miles on the 95. It really wasn't that bad of a job. I have a side business repairing. What brand of Opti do you recommend. Stock or aftermarket? The cap and rotor are MSD pieces.

What brand of cheap parts did you use to get all that done for $70.00? I would never do a cap and rotor but the cheapest I have seen is around $150.00 Hope you didn't use Delphi or AC Delco............

I have the vented MSD. I have not installed it yet on my '92. I would go MSD but there have been some problems with some of the units lately.

I'm assuming the guy who only paid $70.00 for cap rotor and plugs isn't running an LT1. The LT1 is a whole different story.

He also just did a heater core and his dash isn't working correctly. He has an L98.

but he had the guts to do a heater core where most people would have by passed it or paid the stealership 1200 to do it for them . as for the dash lights it doesnt make any sence, well it does make since its a corvette its gonna have electrical problems we all know that . but lights worked fine when i pulled cluster out i checked the two wires that feed that circut & both are grounded one should be hot .eather way i wired around it now they dint flicker like they did before & speedo doesnt flash on & off like itdid before . so i guess i made improvements.as far as the zr1 you are correct mine is theL 98 & im sure there is some differences but 150 for a cap & rotor i guess it is possible concedering a headlight switch is 175.

dam man that is nuts crazy even .i built a 383 stroker foe my 53 chevy truck it made 505 hp & 586 ftlbs tq & only had a 20 dollar cap & roter .

larry00 02-02-2009 07:25 AM

Jeez the stock OEM units go 160,000 regulary and often 240,000 miles. They are optical and other than the shaft bearings they just don't wear out.
Water and the placement are the enemy's.
For a tune up put on new Plugs and Wires , water pump w/hose running from weep hole to below your OPTI .
Another good mod while you are in there is to put some small washers behind your ECM to get it away from the hot A$$ed head .
Our cars are getting old so look closely at your plastic plug ins with a critical eye to how brittle they are getting.
I had one I had to take the cap off and puch it out from the back and the car had 77,000 miles.
I paid $89.00 for a Painless replacement harness and waited three days for it and I live less than a mile from them. LOL
I called them about color codes and the dude said hey we could have told you where to pick one up out of stock ! DUH !
Importaint :
I haven't checked myself but I hear [ maybe Leesvette knows for sure] that NAPA carries a lot of those pesky connectors that are quickly going south on on C4's.
I hear the same part goes for $28.00 bucks at NAPA !
I'm going to check when I get back into town and if so NAPA will get a lot more business as I usually have to order or chase my parts.
MSD had some problems with screws coming loose but they say thats been corrected but I put a little loctite on all of them anyway.
