When engine needs service light is displayed and remains on how do I tell what needs to be done? Since a numbered code is not visible is my only option to take it to my mechanic? Two weeks ago my intake gasket was replaced, about a week later the needs service light came on and stays on. Can anyone help? Thanks, Jay

 

If you know where your diagnostic connector is, you can short the 2 terminals in upper right hand corner of the connector and it will blink trouble codes. It will blink each code 3 times. The very first will be a 12, it will flash once, then twice and do it three times (confusing I know). Record your codes after that and post them here and I can tell you what area needs attention. [8D]

 

If your intake gasket was replaced by a shop I would take it back to them and tell them that shortly after they did the repair the light popped on. It may have been caused by something they did, and if so should be fixed free of charge. Good luck.

 

P2P, probably not something they did unless he has not driven the car, because if they left a sensor unplugged, on OBD I cars, it would set a code immediately.

Thanks for your imput. Maybe one of the connectors was not pushed on tight and came loose.
