Hood relase cable

I have an '86 and I just bought a new hood release cable for my car but was wondering if there was an easy way to replace it. It seems like I have to prettymuch take my dash apart to get to the release lever inside. And where the cable goes throught the firewall, there is a rubber boot or bushing that seems almost impossible to take out. I've done a lot of **** to my car myself, and this seems almost impossible :( any suggestions?

Well...Not much help here. I'd look in my manual but my manual is in my car and my car is in West Verginia and I'm in TN. sorry. hang in there and Mech259 will probably jump in with the answer for ya. Cheers

Rip the dash out and install the new cable. If your old cable breaks...ewww...its not pretty. You have to get that tool that pops it open and its still a real hassle.:eek:
