Hey guys, i am trying to do this today and i havent found anything in my Haynes manual. I Am trying to replace my fuel injectors. I have been told to get a Chiltons but i havent gotten around to it. If anyone could help me out here with a website or something with step by step instructions, or if someone could tell me not even to mess with it LOL! That would be excellent. THANKS GUYS!!

DO NOT get a chiltons! go ahead and get a factory service manual. it will save you loads of time and trouble.

Replacing the injectors on my TPI wasnt too bad. Ive never worked on an LT1, but i would think it would be easier with the smaller intake. you going with the same flow rate?

No sir, I upgraded the flow to 32lbs/hr. from the 24lbs/hr that i believe was stock. Or maybe it was 22... i dont remember. But yes i upgraded it. I figured with all the other work done to my motor with the heads and cam and port and polished intake and new MAF and i am getting a58mm throttle body, it could maybe use a bit more fuel pumping to it. So a service manual huh? Is this maybe a job that is kind of self explanitory? Because i know you have to get rid of fuel pressure by taking out the fuse for the fuel pump then running your engine to make sure the fuel is out. Then it is pretty much taking it all apart from what i have gathered. But i guess the hardest part is going to be remembering where everything goes when i put it all back together. Just a guess-timate, but how long would you say it might take someone who is pretty handy with a wrench? Im not saying i am a mechanic by any means, but i think i know my way around a motor relatively ok. Thanks for the reply btw raisin I was hoping someone would!

I agree with Raisin. I did injector work on my 85 when i had it, and the service manuel i obtained from Chevy was the way to go. I had a problem with my EGR system, NO ONE could fix it. Once i got the manuel, it was so detailed and easy to fix- cost $22 for the part! Once you get the fuel rail out, the injectors have a locking clip. It has to be rotated, un-locking the injector, then you gently remove the injector.

Thanks guys, i am actually working on it pretty much as we speak. I figured that it would just be relatively self-explanitory as i moved along with it. The only reason i am in here now is because it started raining and i had to close my hood as to not get water in the injector holes. Anyway, i appreciate all of your help. I am gonna wait for the rain and then finish installing the injectors and put it all back together!

Hey guys, can anyone tell me really quick how important the retaining clips are? I cant get mine back on because the ACCEL ones dont come with the same groove as stock to put the clip on. I dont want to mess up my car by not putting them back on, but the clips dont fit on the new ones

Haha, it sounds all right to me too raisin! Adjustable FPR huh? How much do those run? And is there a certain brand i should get or look out for?

A little side note. My car is STILL not starting right. For some reason, my car has, for the longest time, been taking forever to start. I have tried almost everything, save replacing the Starter, the Fuel Pump, or purchasing an MSD 6AL Ignition box. I dont know what else to do. If anyone can help me, here are the symptoms. I Put the key in to start the car with ALL accessories off. No lights, no AC, no anything, and then i turn the key to ACC. for a sec to let the car recognize the key is there, and then i turn the key to start her up and it takes about 5 or 6 seconds of a God Awful high pitched noise that sounds like the engine is trying to start but its not getting spark or fuel or something, and then it finally sputters and chokes before it starts. I dont know what the deal is, but when i depressurize my fuel system and then put the fuse back in and go to start it up, the car starts right up for about 3 times, then after that, it starts doing its normal crap again... Anyway, if anyone has the same problem or something i would appreciate any info. THANKS!!

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it and watch the f/p as you are starting. If that is ok, then use a spark checker to see if you are getting spark, then use a noid light to check for injector pulse. Have you checked for codes? If your ECM is not seeing the low data rate signal from your Optispark, it will not fire the injectors. Get back to me on what you have checked. The clips in the injectors shouldn't matter because you have bolts holding the fuel rail down and clamping them between the rail and intake. [8D]
