Default Looking to buy a 1994...

I have the opportunity to break into the Corvette club. I'm looking at a 1994 with 125k miles, selling for $6k. Car is very clean, and the current owner is the third owner. All new weather stripping about 2-3 years ago. The only problem is this: the car had been sitting for about 3-4 months. When I went to test drive it, it had to be jumped. The car drove beautifully for about 10 minutes. Then, after sitting at a traffic light for about a minute or two, it died. No power at all. No lights, nothing. The owner said it had to be the battery. He had the alternator replaced about 6 months-1 year ago, also replaced the opti-spark and water pump at that time. Put jumper cables on again, and it would try to turn, but just wasn't getting enough juice to turn over.

I'm not totally naive about cars, but I'm by no means an expert or junkie. I always thought that once the car was started, the battery played no role. He told me, though, that the battery was somehow involved with the operation of the car, that if you take the battery loose while the car is running, it will die.

Is this correct? Or is there a larger problem that I should be concerned about? The ownerput a new battery in after I left last night, and said the car fired right up.

Y'alls help would be greatly appreciated.

The battery in later motel c4 is very important it takes a lot of juice to run the car. The alt can be fine and if the battery has a bad cell it could start and quit. You have said he changed the battery I would drive it again and see what the car is like in your eyes. The 1994 Corvette is a great machine and they are a little easer to work on then the early c4's

Go for another test drive. Maybe didn't have enough time to let the alternator charge the battery. Maybe the alternator is going bad too. Good luck there, bro. Hope it works out... how 'bout some pics of the ride in question?

2 possibilities:

1) He knows this is false, and is lying, so you don't know where the his lying stops. Or starts.

2) He really thinks this is true, and doesn't know about cars, and this would probably include care and maintenance.

Since there's no way to know which is the case, tell him to have a good day.
