LT1 & Clutch Question

How much of a lumping idle does a true stock LT1 - 1995 variety have? Mine seems to lope pretty good at idle but calms down as rpm's go up quickly. On the clutch it engages right at the top of the clutch petals travel. I checked the fluid in clutch master cyl and it is full. Is this normal - last clutch was approx 1 or 2 inches before petal fully out.
Thanks

RE: LT1 & Clutch Question

Any factory LT1 I've ever heard has a smooth idle. If your clutch pedal is at the top, more than likely your clutch disc is wore out. [8D]

RE: LT1 & Clutch Question

Clutch is bad or the pressure plate is bad. Either way the tranny has to be dropped and the bell housing removed. If the problem was the clutch master or slave cylinder your symptoms would be reverse....the clutch would disengage at the bottom of the pedal.

Figure 700-800 in labor to remove and replace and $250 parts (clutch/pressure plate/throw out bearing)

RE: LT1 & Clutch Question

Thanks for the info,
Can driving hurt - it's a tough time to shell out the funds currently - I don't really drive much - I kind of thought that might be the problem but was hoping not the case. I haven't noticed any slipping of clutch but I'm sure that is coming or currently happening. Would driving somewhat hurt flywheel or transmission?
Thanks

RE: LT1 & Clutch Question

You can drive it until the clutch shatters. Then your dead in the water. Try to stay away from hills, and stopping in heavy traffic. I'd say you have about 350 miles before it just slips completely (no movement).

RE: LT1 & Clutch Question

Thanks for heads up,
what brand clutch & pressure plate would you recommend?
did you replace the flywheel?
Thanks
