Default LT1 rev limiter

I just recently purchased a 94 vette (auto) with 103k. My concern is the engine reving uncontrollably (when accelerating hard) just as it hits 6k on the tach before shifting into 2nd. I assume this is the rev limiter kicking in causing this Zooom!!! sensation (correct me if I'm wrong). This does not occur during normal acceleration, in any other gear. I'm not the original owner so I'm not sure if any mods may have contributed to this symptom or if its something that just developed. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

if you mean by zoom that it revs up ,then its not the rev limiter the whole point of the limiter is to not let it rev over a certain rpm,but if it revs up just before the 1-2 shift then i would say thats transmission slip ,your 1-2 bands and clutch packs are weak .its a common problem on worn out transmissions in vettes ,i rebuilt many at a trans shop i worked at and even my own vette had the same problem but it was the 2-3 shift right before it would shift it would rev up .check your trans flud for discoloration and a burnt smell that will give you a few clues about the shape of it.

Good news! The shifting issue seems to be resolved with a bottle of Lucas transmission fix. Tranny fluid looked and smelled fine but this stuff makes shifting from 1st to 2nd nice and tight.

That might help it for a little while but you are probably looking at a rebuild soon.
