Default performance chips

I have a nice 95 with the LT-1 engine. I can squeeze 26.5 mpg at 62mph. Has anybody tried a performance chip that really makes a difference in hp and what about improved milage?

Our 93 already had a chip and K&N filter when we bought it. Mileage on the highway is about 28-29 at 65 mph. Can't tell you if the chip made a difference. I would suggest you install a K&N, though.

Pretty much your looking for best bang for the buck in horsepower department? Since you a L-T1 your already ahead at teh high end of the game. Generic chips are crap. A good chip will ONLY make your car better if you start some heavy mods. If you wannt a chip to make a difference in both areas yoru requesting your going to need

A good tune up, Long tube headers, heads/cam, bigger fuel injectors, upgraded fuel pump, better intake such as a BPP Vortext ram air, Roller rockers and a better exaust. That should boost you up to around 350. Once thats done, you can get a custom chip burned for YOUR exact car. pcmforless.com is good. Talk to Alvin and he will get your car fixed up. The chip alone would add some ponies and boost ur miles per gallon. Goodluck.

Edit - Looks like Black86Vette basically posted the same things I did. Great minds think alike.

I have a Hypertech Thermomaster chip in my LT1. It only increases performance at WOT. You will feel no seat of the pants difference at all. Don't buy a chip like mine or any other aftermarket off the shelf chip. Get a custom burned chip with a good tune. One that is burned to your liking. There are several good tuners out there like PCMForLess. Alvin does a great job. You fill out a survey sheet that ask all kinds of questions about your set up (even in stock form he can improve your performance), mods if any, what you plan on doing etc. This is the route I would go and I am sure its the same route most would advise. I am not knocking Hypertech - its just not going to do what they say. My chip is rated to give anywhere from 15-25 more HP - it doesn't give anywhere near that. Knowing what I know now, I would never have spent $200.00 bucks on this thing when I could have got a custom chip that could have been burned for me and it would do things like turn the fans on earlier etc. Here is the link http://www.pcmforless.com/

Update. Took the car out today on a100 mile jaunt round trip. 1st leg outside air temp 59 degrees with little wind. At 59 mph got it up to 34 mpg (really). Return trip was 74 degrees with air conditioning on. Could only get 31.5 mpg. Terrain was mostly flat all the way. Hypertech chip,Borla exhaust, and K&N, Amzoil manual trans fluid. Hope this helps.
