Default Rewiring 1991 window switch

Got a defective window switch on my 91 convertible passenger side. The shop near me says that I have a strange year Vette and he can't get new/replacement switches for my car but he can "rebuild" them for $500. WTF??!??!??! $500?!??!?! Has anyone done this before that can give me some tips to do it on my own?

Thanks!

Excuse me? Strange year. I had a 90 and it had power windows that went out and I took it to stereo shop. Fixed the wires in it and its fine. Hes a dumb@$$. Dont listen to him. Check out www.ecklers.com They should have a switch. Rebuild a switch? Umm I didnt know that was possible but if it is and you want to do it um ok...but 500 dollars rip off.......

Wow. I just searched around to Ecklers, CorvetteCentral, etc. You are right! They discontinued those switches for model years 90 and 91. How wierd is that?

OK, we're on the hunt for a used one for you. There are tons of wreckers down there in the States that specialize in Corvette's. One of them will definately have one.

Also, I found this online for you: 1990-92 Chevrolet Corvette Power Window Switch

Will that do the trick for you?

Let us know, and we can continue looking for you, if that's not it.

Thanks guys for your input, I had checked Ecklers and a couple other sites with no success.

TopSpeed, I checked out the link you posted and the picture they show doesn't look like it would work, but for $17 I'm willing to give it a shot - hopefully they just have the wrong picture posted on their website.

Here are a couple of shots of what my switch looks like - as you can see it's different from the one on 1aauto.com.

I found another on eBay for $55, but there's no guarantee that one isn't bad too.... I'm open to any ideas any of you guys might have. I've got a permanent convertible until I get this fixed!

If that switch will work from a 90 and its just a power window one I think I can help you. Let me know and I will print off yoru pics. I can talk to the guy that bought my old 90 for scrape and if he still has it ill see what he can do. Also saw the switch you bought for 17.00. I think its just a alternitive due to the discontinue of your part so I am thinking its the same basis just a different body style. Mine has a swtichh similar to that "86" but its also aftermarket from the previous owner. Please let us know if it works or not. Hope it does goodluck

Thanks Black86, I might take you up on that offer to check on your old 90. I'm going to order one of those $17 ones and hope it works. If not, I'll let you know.

Ok. I hope it all works out for you. If the 90 is already picked I will talk to the guy who sold me my car. He has a mini shop/Junkyard behind his place and he can help out.

you can take it apart and clean it ,use a scotch brite pad to clean the contacts its easy i did mine on my 91 it works great now ,i did use some dielectric grease, the stuff they use on plug wires to lube it up .it works like new now.

smokeshow, you are a genius! I did buy that switch from 1aauto.com and it is not compatible, but it was only a $25 mistake.

Some contact spray, dielectric grease, and 600 grit sandpaper and I'm back in business!
