transmission shifting problems
I have a 93 LT1 automatic. It shifts hard into second and shifts into third at close to 3000 rpms. The fluid looks good and is full. Iv'e owned the car for about 5 months and not sure if fluid was maintained but it dosent look or smell burnt. Is there vacuum to the tranny? Hate to take it to the tranny shop and get raped.

RE: transmission shifting problems
Can't remember the exact year, but Chevy went to the 4L60 tranny around 93, 94 as an upgrade to the 700R. The 4L60 was essentially a 700R with PCM controlled shifting via shift solenoids. If yours has the 4L60, I would first check for trouble codes, as some codes will cause shifting probs as you described. If it has a 700R, you can try the detent cable adjustment, but since the problem just happened, I would be more concerned with a valve sticking in the valve body. Pull the transmission pan and see if there is any brass fillings or sludge (clutch material) in the pan. Might be a sign of transmission failure down the road. [:-]

RE: transmission shifting problems
If it does need transmission, GM offers a rebuilt one with a 3 year, 50,000 mile parts and labor warranty, also Jasper Engines has a good unit with a 3 year, 75,000 mile parts and labor warranty. We use Jasper products a lot at my shop and they make a good product. [8D]

RE: transmission shifting problems
Thanks everyone for the feedback.I ended up having the fluid and filter changed. It was probably the original fluid,it was pretty dirty, but there wasn't any sighns of metal. It shifts a lot better.
