ORIGINAL: TopSpeed I read an article once by an engineer who wrote that these sorts of things are not possible from a psychics perspective. I don't know if he was full of crap or anything, but the math in the article seemed sound to me and he really backed up his hypothesis. |

And so I did, 94, and so I did!!!! LOL Geez, I am now wondering if that was a Freudian slip???!?!? And for the wave? Consider me the Canadian Ambassador to the Corvette Wave!!!! [8D] |
RE: turbonator
Back in the '60s, I heard of using a heater fan hooked up to an aircleaner as a cheep blower to add 10hp. Never tried it, but, ya think?
|
RE: turbonator
I know i have read in those Mustang magazines (my friend has a Mustang) that there are people that have made their own turbos or superchargers or whatever out of leafblowers. I was told they were the same thing just a different amount of power and built differently. But, then again, you know those mustang guys will do almost anything to their cars. :D

RE: turbonator
Now I remenber, we called it an OAKY BLOWER.

The video was of them cruisin' around, hittin' the "turbo" button!! *thumps on desk* Bwaaaaaa!! It was like a 76 Cutlass in pretty bad shape, if I recall, and these two guys were cruisin' around lookin' for hot rods to race!!! They were making fun of the whole concept, I believe. You shoulda seen the look on their faces when they hit the "turbo" button to turn on their, uh, "forced induction" setup... an' nothin' happened.... they really had a blast making that movie. This thread has reminded me of all that. This is another one of those things that I don't believe is possible from a physics perspective. :D ORIGINAL: 94blackC4 I know i have read in those Mustang magazines (my friend has a Mustang) that there are people that have made their own turbos or superchargers or whatever out of leafblowers. LOL I really wish I could find that scientific article I had read on this stuff... this scientist dude (an engineer of sorts) had a algorithm to prove that these sorts of things cannot do much, really. I cannot remember the details, exactly, but yeh, the long and short of it is.. you want a blower on yer rod?? BUY A BLOWER!!! :D |
RE: turbonator
Popular Mechanics did an article on these type of devices in September last year. Guess What????? Out of 6 devices tested, none of them worked and 1 of them set on fire under normal properly installed conditions. The genie is still in the bottle as far as adding 35 HP and 25% mileage increase for under $100 bucks.

RE: turbonator
Amen to that SandCobra... From my standpoint, if you are dumb enough to buy one of those things and think it might actually work like it says, you should be put in "Corvette Time-Out". Even when buying a new intake or throttle body or Mass Airflow Sensor, when they say "This item adds 25 RWHP!!" I would definately recommend taking that with a grain of salt. There is no telling how much horsepower it will add. It is all based on percentages and what you already have done to your car. They always test the BEST POSSIBLE conditions for the vehicle and then tell you that your car will get the same results but dont tell you that you need to be pushing at least 9,152,367 RWHP corrently to get the 25hp outof the product. And by that time, the 25HP wont make a darned bit of difference.

RE: turbonator
*mad applause for both sandcobra and 94blackC4* Exactly guys. These sorts of things... if it sounds too good to be true, guess what??... it might just be.

RE: turbonator
so i take it you guys dont have this product on your car lol your rite to good to be true probly is

RE: turbonator
Haha, you guys are funny. To be completely honest with you though, my first car was an Oldsmobile (I was only 15 when i bought it, i couldnt even drive yet) which was a GM. The year and a half i had it, i had more problems with it than good times. My Vette is my 3rd vehicle. It is already in the shop and has had more than $1500 worth of repairs PRIOR to this visit to the shop. My 2nd car was a 1999 Ford Escort ZX2. The ONLY thing that ever went wrong with that car was that the AC stopped working. EVERYTHING else on that car still worked perfectly when i sold it. The only reason i sold it was because i didnt want to drive it and it was pointless to keep a car i didnt drive. So, say what you want about Ford, but i think they are pretty reliable.
Then again, i dont really have a preference when it comes to the make of a car. If the car looks good and it has a decent engine, i like it. I am not a Corvette guy, or a Mustang guy, or a Viper guy. I am a CAR GUY!!! I LOVE ENGINES!!!! But i love Corvettes also lol. |

Of course, you need to own a small country to be able to afford one these days, but yeh, I love that 426 HEMI. But, with all that bein' said, if left with a preference, I'd rather be in the 'Vette, hands DOWN! :) |
RE: turbonator
You know...the way to make horse power at the intake level ...is to smooth the air flow out...not make the air "tumble" ...tyo make the air flow smoother at the head area they "port and polish " the valve area ...chambers..they don't rough it up to make the air more disturbed...make sense ??

RE: turbonator
Years ago, prior to getting the "Starship", I had a 1970, 440, 6-pac, Road Runner. That MO-FO could run. It could hang faily well in the turns. Had it up to 145mph but had to back off 'cause a turn was commin'. Went through 3 tranys, 4 or 5 altinators, (had lots of elec probs with it), and the cam broke in half once. My RR fell victom to five deer crossing the road, about 10:00pm, while I was doin' about 95mph. That was when I was in my early 20s. I've wised up since then. I don't do those late nite Wham-Jams anymore.

(over 20 yrs ago now).... yeh, I do NOT drive like that anymore!!!! |
RE: turbonator
I have a friend(mustang guy) that works in a machine shop and got a turbocharger off of a 1989 labaron in a junk yard. fabbed a bracket and crossover pipe to keep the exhaust pressure the same and hooked it up to the plennum. clames it works great. cost him 25 beans at the salvage yard plus the plumbing. Maybe I'll steal the one off my wifes old Labaron in the barn.....Hummmm!
As for chevy vs ford...I love my new 'Vette and have always wanted one. But I miss my '70 scj Dragpac Torino I had when I was 17. I got it from a crippled guy that work for ford and special ordered it, He couldn't drive it anymore and cryed when I toted it off. The hardcore ford guys tell me it never exsisted but sorry to tell them It did. this guy was an electrical engineer for What is now "Ford raceing" and ordered the car with a NASCAR Boss 429(HEMI). yeeoow...did that car run. unfortunatly it was stolen and never found. I'm not particular about makes just raw American(canada versions included, Topspeed)horsepower. nothin like an american V8. I have owend a bunch of old Fords, Chevy's and Mopars(even a Studibaker Avanti, kinda like a 'Vette). If you take care of them they will all last and bring lots of speeding tickets....Hell, I had seven speeding tickets among others before I had a drivers liscence......and who says you have to give up the late night runs when you grow up....if that's true I'll never grow up..I'm only 46. |
