Washed engine now it won't start - help!

Yesterday I washed the motor with a light spray of water and engine cleaner and following it I started it up to dry and it ran fine. There was some slight stumbling but not bad. I figured the Opti was wet and it would dry out. After a few minutes of running it died. I tried for hours to strat it and it would crank fine but it would not start.

Is it possible the Opti could be bad with a little bit of water overspary?
What should I do to check the Opti?
Any other diagnostic checks I should do to see why it is not firing?
Any other help or past expirience of the same issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You have comitted the Cardinal Sin of LTx C4 ownership. You need to pull the codes but I would bet the farm that your Opti has crapped out.

Just curious... how would the Opti give out like that? It has only 7,542 on the odometer - obviously little wear and tear on it. I know the opti is a sealed unit and with little to no water on it I really can't understand what would cause the damage? Itis at the dealer now and they hope to look at it today. I'm dying to know what the"no start" culprit is.

For the record, I've washed my LTI Firehawk T/A with no issues. I DO NOT flood the engine with water but never the less it gets wet but nt enought to keep it from starting..

Well LeesVette you were correct. The dealer just called and said the opti gave up the ghost. He also said that it was on it's way out as it was. This I find hard believe because of my mileage.

Nevertheless, it is getting fixed and I will be picking it up Monday.

Do a search on some recent threads regarding the Opti. I have posted lots of info on symptoms and causes of opti failure. There is some interesting reading in those threads.

I heard somewhere a few years ago that the 92,93,94 had distributors that you could not wet. They fixed the problem for the 95's. I do not know if it ruins them or you just have to take them off to dry them.

I drove through a large puddle (against my will) and my car was running rough for a while, but it eventually ran normally after a few days. I have a 92....This was over a year ago and doesn't relate to my current problem (see my thread on LT1 running rough if you're interested....)

Leader one...Please let me know what the dealer charges
Mine could be on the outs as I watered my engine last nite
and it is backfiring and running rough. Member Eggster ran through
a puddle and was able to dry his out without replacing
the Opti. Could you post your experience and $$$

On the way out, they said, huh? Out where? Did they call the psychic hotline to ascertain that call? Maybe HAL 9000 called it, like he did the AE 35???

Just save my parts there, Mr Goodwrench, and show me what's up when I get there. Then every thing will be just fine.
