I have 71000 miles in my 1994 vette, I was wondering do I need to have the transmission fluid, and gear oil changed when I get the engine oil changed? When I do is it worth going with Royal Blue? Is it much more in cost for the claimed 9 hp increase, and if so, is 9 horse power noticeable? Thanks for any information.

Hey Dale, Automatic transmissions should have screen and fluid changed every 30,000 miles or more often if hot or heavy service. It would no hurt to change thegearoil w/ the the limited slip additive. Stay w/ the mobile 1 for the motor oil, your not going feel 9hp, even if the claim is even close.

Limited slip additive is a GM product used in rears w/ limited slip or posi rears. It prevents the gear oil from foaming and causing the clutch discs to slip. Most owner/service manuals will tell you if its needed. It is a small bottle that most auto parts stores sell.

 

Thanks again, now another question, are all vettes equiped with positive or limited slip, I know I have a button to push on the dash to do something with slipping.

All vettes since '63 have posi or limited slip. The button is for a traction control system that car's computer contols the wheel spin for performance, it can be turned on or off depending on the driving conditions i.e. snow/ice.
