Default What oil to use - Synthetic?

Hello, new here and new to owning a C4. I was wondering what kind of oil I can use. Is it okay to use Synthetic Oil for a '95 Corvette engine?

Yes,it will be ok. But when asking about oil, 95 guys will have 110 different answers.

@74HARLEY

When you lift the clamshell, at the front do you see a sticker that came from the factory saying use Mobil 1? LT1's from 1992 wear this factory sticker. 5/30 weight. when it comes to oil, i don't deviate from factory reccs.

TonyD: Welcome to the forum. I concur with the above recommendation of sticking with the factory fill of synthetic Mobile 1.

Welcome to the forums. I would stick to factory specs they have their reasons. But it's your car and your money, your choice.

I won't say I always used Mobile 1, sometimes Castrol, but always used 5 - 30 synthetic in my 94.

One of the reasons you don't see other synthetic oils recommended for a Corvette is that there's a very rigorous testing process that GM requires in order for a oil to be approved. My guess is that most, if not all, oil companies just don't want to spend the time and money to get approved for a very small market for their product.

I would imagine part of it is because the LT-1 tends to run a bit hot and some oils will break down quicker then others. I had good luck with Castrol back in my racing days with my Sprites so I would trust it to perform in the Corvette. Usually depends on which one is on sale at the right time. If all is equal I'll grab the Mobile 1, but I always used 5/30 as recommended. The tolerances today are much tighter for the oil passages and I want that stuff to flow as easily as possible. Those engineers usually know what their talking about.
