I just installed a Vortex Rammer on my 96 CE. I highly recommend just cutting the shroud while it's on the car. Way too much effort get that sucker out! I currently have some Hooker Headers waiting in the garage for install. Maybe that will be my next weekends project.

 

And to think my first mod was removing the dealer sticker from the rear bumper!

Well if you didn't feel a difference with the intake you will definitely feel the difference when you install those headers.

 

^^^Yeah, I'm looking forward to getting them on the car but it sure looks like it's going to be a royal PITA. Pretty tight compartment there.[:@]

you will get about 15 to 20 horses from a intake, the headers will give about 16-30 horses depending on if they are shorty headers or long tube headers and brand, if you want to feel some hp change your gears 373, it will be like adding a second motor.cam and heads and fuel will give you your most hp.

Thanks for the info!!! I have hooker headers and they are long tubes and jet-coated. My next install after the headers is going to be either a corsa or borla (leaning towards borla) cat-back system. What will the hp gains be for these add-ons?

I have taken the vette for a 50 mile jaunt after the install. I had the roof off so I really couldn't discern any noticeable difference in sound at first. As I drove longer, it seemed that the sound coming from the car was a bit deeper and throatier. More of a growl. It also seemed my mid-range had more of a kick to it. This is all subjective but that's what it felt like.

So how much of a PITA is the header swap going to be?

After the exhaust, the gear change to 373 is going to be next on the list.

 

well the headers are going to be a pain in the butt.you will certainly cut up your nuckles a bit. mighy have to jack one side of engine to get them in.long tubes are a good choice.you will get more top end from them. the gears i would have them professionaly installed they need to be mich and shimed. you can buy the whole pumpkin from ecklers for about 1000.00 bucks or have the gears put in for about 400.00 bucks.gears cost 350.00.total 750.00. di you say thet you have the borla muffs on allready.go to the c-6 bord there is is a question on exhaust and has some vidio on the mufflers,, the add says new aftermarket exhaust system, check it out and let me no what you think.

 

cking, thanks for all the info!!! I don't have an exhaust system yet. Still saving my nickels and dimes! I have about 3 other projects (turbo busa, TL1000R, and buying farkles for my V-strom) going on right now and my wallet is saying "ENOUGH" (I won't quote what the wife is saying as there might be small children that surf this site).
