C5 Auto or Stick?????????
Hey guys, I'm taking a look a a couple of vettes this weekend. I'm torn between the auto and stick. Other than the general argument of stick for more fun and auto for less hastle during city driving, is there anything that I need to know about this model that would sway me either way?
How much of a performance difference is there if any
Does the life of the transmission last longer with either model?
Any problems known with 97-2000 models with this issue?
Thanks!

Automatic transmissions are illegal in corvettes. Just kidding, I have nothing really against autos, but I've always prefered sticks, it gets me so much more engaged in the car, and feels even more powerful. However, I test drove a auto vette, and being a 350hp car, you dont necessarily need the stick lol.
As for performance, I've heard that sticks tend to have 10% drivetrain power loss compared to an autos 15%, but I could be wrong.
A stick transmission i believe will outlast an auto, or certainly have less problems with the exception of the clutch.

Coming from someone who just bought (last weekend) we picked up a 97 with an auto. No regrets, sure there is a bit more power loss but its nice being able to concentrate on which direction Im going when the back end is awigglingallaround rather then shifting because I'm approaching redline. It depends on how much stress you want while you are driving

Yeah, There was no question when I bought my Vette it was going to be a stick. I used to have a Big Block 67 Chevelle that was auto. Which was a great ride, but 6 speed Vette is awesome.
