Default C5 corvette electrical issues

I own a 2000 corvette with around 58k miles. Everything was working fine until one day when I was driving around my car suddenly was loosing voltage until all electronics completely turned off. I quickly pulled over and I waited for a friend to bring me another battery. We set up the new battery and in less than 15 minutes it did the same thing, low voltage. Good thing I arrived home on time. Now every time I try to connect the battery a lot of sparks come out like if something is demanding a lot of power even tho the car is completely off. It did the same thing with the alternator disconnected. It also did the same thing (a lot of sparks when connecting the battery) with the starter disconnected so I don’t think it’s any of those. I also disconnected the headlights and power seats. It still sparks a lot with All of those disconnected. All fuses are intact and good. Does anyone have anything similar?

Welcome to the forums! I would keep a fire extinguisher handy! What you are describing sounds like a direct short + to ground! I would trace the + cable from battery to starter to see if it is grounding or shorting across somewhere.

Welcome to the forum. I agree with thomas77. Sounds like there's a short someplace in the system.

Happy New Year To All. Many times you can replay to a thread and you never hear back, so you can only wonder if you guessed right or they got frustrated enough that they sold it, fixed it or threw it in the dumpster. Trying to diagnose electronic problems without being hands on is very hard to do sometimes, but it's fun to try. I should start a new thread on how to add pulse wipers on a C-3 for less than $30. I'm at the point now of where to put the tiny controller close to the dash without drilling holes in the new dash pad, still thinking. day two.

You drive your Corvette in the rain? JK 😉

Mine was a daily driver before I retired. Neither rain nor sleet nor snow could keep me from work. 😄
