Default c5 performance

okay i am trying to decide between a regular c5 and a z06 c5. about how much would it cost to put down around 400 rwhp with either of these cars? I have around 30k to play with and i didnt know if i should just get a z06 or get a regular c5 and put the rest of the money into performance. what would be the best way to get 400 rwhp out of the regular c5?

For that much, you may be able to find a decent C5 coupe and then add a supercharger to get 490 RWHP. Heads and cam will get you past 400 RWHP with the coupe and intake/exhaust and tune should get you there with an 02 Z06.

well with that i might go with a c5 hatch so insurance will be better. What is a good supercharger kit for a c5, not cheap but still aware of cost. i have been saving for a while and i have finally decided to sell the m3.

also, how do the vettes do with forced induction on stock internals/high miles(around 80k)?

i am really going to try to get away with around 25k, would there be any way to do that?

Around here (Southern Cal), Andy at A&A Corvettes is the supercharger king. I understand he prefers Vortech SCs, but he also has a really nice ATI setups. Still, I'd go with the Vortech. You can see his setup here:

https://www.aandacorvette.com/cart/s...p?MainCatID=18

As long as boost is kept to reasonable levels (7 psi, maybe), the LS1 is very durable for many miles. As far as mileage on a used C5 goes, make sure the rings are still sealing well before having a supercharger installed. Generally, if the car has good smog numbers, its engine is probably in good shape.
25K is possible. Keep looking and take your time. If you can find a car like mine, you will be love it.

thanks for all the advice. its probably not going to be possible untill after the summer but i always try to think ahead. I just need more power, and i dont feel like going forced induction on a 130k mile ///m3

Let me preface this all by saying: I know very little about cars and the little I do know, I have learned from good people like Dave.

Now,based upon my experience, you will not get 490 RWHP from a Vortech S/C, unless you swap outthe rear gears for a C5 Z06 differential. That's what Andy did for me and with a conservative tune I have 490 RWHP / 452 RWTQ. Yahoo!

Thanks again, Dave, for steering me to A&A - Andy is the best!

Why not swap out the rear gears? Costs about $2,200 (installed price) and will really wake up the back end of your vette.

that would be a possibility. what is a good ratio that will still be driveable on the highway?

Actually, I misquoted the price. The installed price was $1899 plus tax ($1399 diff, $500 install) and the best gear ratio for a LS1 engineis 3:42.

Honest! Call Andy at A&A Corvette - he is the best.

Hello, Rita!

I think the equivalent (to Z06) ratio in a C5 coupe or vert is a 3.90, but either that or a 4.10 is a good choice. The 3.73 or 3.90 are good if you like to road course race, since 4.10s would require too much shifting.

Dave
