From the get-go I admit I am ignorant. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I want to buy tires and wheels for my boyfriend's 1998 C5. His tires are neraly bald and the wheels are showing rust/corrosion. He loves runflats. There is a set of used runflats for sale nearby with working sensors and mint GM wheels. Tires have under 10,000miles probably left on them. They set is under $500, which is less thanthe price of the wheels and sensors. I'm thinking he could use them for 5,000+ miles and be better off than he is now. Then, we could get new runflats in the spring.It would stagger the expense a bit. Questions is, would we have to get new sensors with the new tires or so sensors "live on"?

Yes, you can, as long as the sensor batteries are okay. I still can't figure out how someone could love runflats. The difference between the Goodyear runflats and almost any non-runflat is nothing short of incredible. The ride is soooo much smoother and quieter. Going around corners is not nearly as scary, since side-hopping is greatly reduced. I know I will never go back.
