Difference in steering rack between '04 Coupe and '04 Z06?
Hi everyone, I own an '04 A4 Coupe and recently drove an '04 Z06, and apart from the obvious differences in engine performance, manual vs. auto gear splits, braking feel and power, and torsional rigidity (gad, is that enough?) the one overwhelming tactile difference was the steering feel, especially the initial off-center response. My car, which I thought felt pretty good though not as direct as the Porsche 911s I owned long ago, felt rather numb and dead compared to the Z06, and I have searched on the Net for awhile trying to find out the specific steering or suspension bushing changes that make such a vast difference in feel. Very nearly the difference between a luxury car response and what my imagination thinks of a "sports car" feel.
I know that both use an electric assist that has been criticized for lacking feel, and like I said, the old 911s with their manual racks had tons of kickback, very nearly like a motorcycle, very trustworthy if you can get used to that much information. The Z06 is just a remarkable car, and I openly wonder if I can somehow approximate some of this admittedly subjective feel in my car?
Thanks to all for responding.
