New here, Questions for you C5 guys...
Hi all, I'm new here.
No, I don't drive a Vette, I'm on a 350z right now. I bought it brand new thinking it would be reliable, and no issues, but I was dead wrong. It's had the transmission replaced, oil consumption, and almost 2 weeks ago my car just wouldn't start at all. The dealership says they can't figure what's wrong, it's idling funny, and it's been in the shop to this day. I'm about to initiate the lemon law....
Anyways, on to corvettes. I love them, they're great cars...I test drove drove a C5 Z06 a month ago and loved it...It would put my 350z to shame. I just want something that's reliable, and responds well to mods, unlike the 350z.
My questions to you guys:
Is it worth saving up for a Z06?
Or just stick with a base C5, and mod it?
Is the LS6 really worth dishing out extra cash?
Or save up even more for a C6? (my favorite of all)
I did my reasearch, called my insurance company and told me it's $745/6 months for an '01 Z06 (My 350z was $850/6 mos)
Any advice or feedback would be appreciated.

i just recently purchased a 2001 c5 Corvette with only a corsa exhaust so far. The car sounds beautiful and rides great for the price that I paid ($22,000). It is obviously a real quick car. My friend has a 2002 z06 and it is a good amount faster, but its also a great deal more money. I would say that if you are looking for speed and handling of course you should save up for the z06 because I also believe that it responds a lot better to mods. But I would have to say that the ride is not as good as the regular c5. If you plan on racing it and taking it to the track, I would def go with the z06. The stock quarter mile time of 11.7 blows away my 13.1
The LS6 (ZO6) is worth the extra $$ in my mind, if you like the body style and intend only minor mods (by which I mean you do not intend to replace the engine or heads). Reasons are: it has 405 HP and is slightly faster than standard C6s (not enough faster to care about, but point is that it isn't slower than the latest standard 'vette as of right now, although I expect the 435 HP standard 08 will be a bit faster). It has more of a performance car edge. More important in my mind, it lacks many of the over-the-top electronics (adjustable suspension, tire pressure sensors, etc.) and other parts (removeable top seals) that give so many problems to so many vette owners: its more of an elemental performance mix.
I'm not a big fan of the FRC and that is why I stayed away from the Z06s when I was looking. My car has a fair amount of work done to it and I have had minor problems thus far.
