RUN FLATS vs. TIRE INFLATOR KIT
Greetings Speed Enthusiasts !!
Please advise: My 2004 Z06 has stock tires (not EMT's or Run Flats.) Guess what? There is no Tire Inflator Kit in the trunk as specified by the owner's manual. So, when I went to inquire on installing run flats, I was told there are none for the size of the current tires. PLEASE help, I am quite small and not keen on fumbling with an inflator kit on the side of the road!!
ANY comments greatly appreciated.

I just got an '02 Z06 and it doesn't have runflats, or an inflator kit. And when I need new tires I'm going to put Michelin PS2's on it. I'm not worried about a flat. Never had it happen to me or anyone I know, so I'll take my chance. I'd rather have the extra performing tires anyway. Just my opinion though.
I would never use one of those kits in my tires anyway....I'm not worried about getting a flat either, in the 30 plus years of driving I have had one flat.
On long trips i just put one of those undersized spares in the trunk. i figure that will get me to a shop, either to repair or replace.

I carry both the inflator and a mini spare (from a Camaro - bought at wrecking yard.
First, I have never had a flat in the 'vette, but I have had five tire problems -- all nails or debris in the tread/belt, in my Porsche in the past two years. I could happen (even though Porsches seem notorious for picking up nails in the tread.
Second, I figure the the inflator is worth trying: I assume it ruins the tire but I am not about to run a patched or plugged ultra high performance tire, so if it went flat, I figure it is ruined anyway. If the inflator works, it saves me having to change the tire when flat before running it to the shop for a new tire.
This last is a big deal for me, with the tubbing kit and the big wheels and tires I run, it takes two jacks and about 30 minutes to change a rear tire (long, long story -- common on any C5 running over 11 inch wide rear wheels). Plus, if I have a passenger I have no place to put the flat tire once removed (of course I don't care about the tire but each rear wheel cost $1300) they won't fit in the trunk and barely fit in the passenger's seat.
