Default Spots in my tinted glass windows

I have a '04 coupe and in sunlight you can see spots in the tinted glass of the side and rear windows- the front windshield is fine. The dealership told me it was due to tempering done to meet European standards. They said this tempering process has been done from '98 - '07. They went on to say, replacing the glass will not eliminate this problem. I totally do not understand that last statement. How could replacing the glass NOT eliminate the problem? I've seen plenty of vettes that do not have this problem, so I think they are not being straight with me. Does anyone know anything about this problem? Has/does anyone have this same problem with their windows? I am still under the new car manufacturer's warranty, so I think they should replace my windows. Do I have any recourse?
Thanks in advance.
RJ

Default RE: Spots in my tinted glass windows

RJ,

I have a '02 coupe and I recently had my windows tinted. Prior to having them tinted I would always notice spots of various colors when I would look at my windows (in the sunlight) through my sunglasses that have polarization and UV block. When I would take the glasses off the spots would disappear.

Once I got my windows tinted I noticed that there were tiny air spots still left in the hatchback window near the heating dots close to the top of the hatchback. Due to the proximity of these heating elements the window tint could not exactly fill in every little gap between heating elements. But it's hardly noticeable.....unless I view it with my sunglasses on.

RJ, other than what I have just described to you I have never noticed any "spots" on the tinted windows of my car. Could you describe in greater detail what type of spots are you seeing? Color spots? White spots? Big or small? etc.

Default RE: Spots in my tinted glass windows

Hi Pecemkr,
Thanks for replying. The spots are white and a bit larger than a quarter and they pretty much cover the entire glass. They definitely look heat related and I also only see them in certain lighting. I am very unhappy about this. This is a 2 year old, $50K car, and it has windows that look like they should be on an old car. This Monday, I will be taking my vette in to have the battery replaced under the warranty (not for the '06 problem) and I am going to lean on them some more about the windows. They will also be fixing 2 scratches they put in my car (I suspect when they lifted it to fix the exhaust hanger) so I'm praying that they don't get overspray on my vette like the last time it was in their bodyshop. I just don't understand how they can get away with not covering a defect like this when the car is still under the original warranty. I'll let you know what happens and thanks again for your input.
Stay safe.
RJ
