I am in the process of buying a 2004 Z06 with 2021 miles from a private owner. This car is absolutely immaculate, but my concern is that the oil has never been changed. Is this something to be concerned about? The car has extremely low miles, but the oil is 3 years old. Do these cars come with Mobile 1 Synthetic from the factory, or do they use mineral based oil for break in? Thanks for any help with this.

I'd change it immediately. I believe the car came with synthetic from the factory but three years is too long for some of the additives to stand up. I doubt there is any long-term damage but get the oil and filter changed immediately just to be sure: in fact, I'd change all the fluids. Also, anticipate that you might have minor AC problems (leaks) - if they sit for long periods the seals dry out sometimes.

 

Thanks for your help. I got the car on Friday and took it straight to the Chevy dealer for a complete service. They said everything looks like new and checked out. It had 2385 miles when I picked it up and I have put another 500 on this weekend alone. I gave up my near perfect 73 L-82survivor to get this car, butdriving the Z06 takes away all the regrets.This is an incredible car. Thanks again for your help.

I'm planning on doing my own oil change, and was wandering what kind of oil the car takes? and how many qts of oil? I'm thinking of going with the 10w30 Royal Purple?
And how many qts of liter for coolant?and what brand of coolant would you guys prefer on your Z
