Watched the Mecum auction last week. Two terrific Corvettes. A '58 with a 283 and fuel injection. 283 cubes, 283 hp. Last bid of $400,000 did not meet the reserve. A '67 Corvette with the L-88 Engine package. Less than 30 were built, and this was the only one in yellow. They reunited the original owner with the car on the block. Cool. It was unrestored, obviously. Last bid of 1.7 million did not meet the reserve.

Alright, for the second time in my life I was in the right place at the right time....kind of. I was watching the Mecum top ten from the fifties. A '57 convertible came on the block and the commentators mentioned the Power Pack. In '57 it was a 283 with a four barrel. No mention of heads, cam, etc. Don't know about the '56.

I did some limited research on the interweb last night and it seems that the consensus of opinion on the power pack is that it consisted of a four-barrel carburetor, higher compression heads, and dual exhaust. Horsepower rating was around 250.
