Default LS3 oil problems

09 4lt covert. seems to have low oil pressure at idle (around 25#). 38,ooo miles.
Is this a problem with these engines? A friend has a 08 with the LS3 and lost oil pressure due to a check valve in the oil pick up.
Very expensive repair and lucky he didn't damage the engine.

I own a 2012 ZR1 and my oil pressure is about the same when warm. On cold starts, the oil pressure is closer to 50 psi at idle.

Welcome to the forum.
I had two Tahoes w/ the 5.3L ('07 & '10) and they both had low idle oil pressure of about 25 psi. Was told that was normal. Never had any problems related to that.

This is normal. In my 2011 base model with wet sump system my oil pressure is around 26psi on 5w30 at operating temp. I switched to 0w40 and at hot idle I’m now about 32psi

I'd switch back to the Chevrolet recommended oil weight because there is a reason that's what they call for.

A proper oil pressure check is not done at idle.
As far as oil pressure goes, in the racing world you need 10psi per thousand rpm to survive.
