Default modded c6 or z06

i am new here and need some help. I have always owned german cars, mainly porsches and bmws, but could not resist taking the new c6 for a test drive the other day. I was extremely impressed to say the least. in fact, it was probably just as quick as my 2001 porsche 996 turbo when it was stock. However, when i buy a car, i can never seem to keep it stock. If i buy a c6, i would want it to be quicker than the stock z06. Has anyone modded their c6 yet. If so, what did you do?, how much power did it make?, and how much did it cost?

i have already seen a ton of upgrades offered for the C6, but the Z06 is in a class of its own...you may be able to match the power of the Z06, but dollar for dollar, the Z06 is the best bet

I know there are a lot of mild upgrades for the C6 now, headers, cat back exhausts, etc., and fo course alot of serious upgrades for the C5 will fit (superchargers, etc) with a little fiddling.

But I've been told that LS1 edit - the computer system you have to use the edit/re-program the PCM to really take advantage of heavy mods, does not work on the C6 and that it may be some time before there is a version that does. Does anyone know if this is true? I know that Lingenfelter, in its Anniversy 402 cubic inch C6s, is using a C5 PCM so they can re-progam the PCM because they can't get into the code on the C6.

Unless you can re-program the PCM, there is no way to get much power our of a C6 even if you modify it. If you can, then simply putting good headers (about $1000 installed) and a Magnusen SC kit (about $8500 installed, $10K with a hood to clear the SC) would give you perfromance equal or better than the new ZO6: there is a test in the March or April 2002 Car and Driver of a C5 with a Lingenfelter-installed Magnusen kit: it did the quarter mileAnd there is and a test of the new ZO6 in the latest Car and Driver (quarter mile in 11.7).

But you'll have to re-program to get any use out of the SC or a can or anything that adds more than about 30 HP - that's the bandwidth of the stock PCM's range of adjustment, pretty much.

Lee, I was wondering if you might know this, as I have been wondering for a while. With the untimely passing of John Lingenfelter, will the company continue with business? I am unsure of their corporate structure, and I was curious that they would go on?

They seem to be thriving and i expect they will be around for some time. I think Lingenfelter had it set up as a viable business with others besides just him in the know, so there were people to run it well when he died. I saw no drop off in their response or marketing and development at the time he was seriously hurt, nor since.

I have noticed they are moving into more car lines than just sports/drag cars: besides vettes and camaros and GTOs, they have branched out ito a lot of offerings for Escalades, Tahoos, and Hummers: this makes sense from a business standpoint-there are a lot more of them out there. That alone indicates they are thinking like business people, so that is a good sign.
