I'm purchasing a used 2006 Z06, and would be very interested to know what has been done service-wise. Carfax comes back clean. Car is absolutely gorgeous, and actually drives nicer than my broither's C5.

I doubt you will able to find any details. It's still under warranty, right? That should take the edge off any worries.

 

Thanks Lee. Yes, it's still under warranty. The owner has all of the service reciepts; I just want to be sure before laying out such a large sum of money. This is my first vette, and I want to make sure it is perfect. A GMPP will be next. Any reccomendations for the car other than driving and enjoying?

As to recommendations: take care of it. Do all the required maintenance as per recommended factory intervals and p[erhaps more often. Fix anything that you think might be going wrong. Find a really good shop to work on it. Note that it has a dry sump and not every wrench jockey knows how to handle that: make sure they know their stuff.

As to mods, think hard about it first. You can add headers, etc., and boost power about 7%, and why not. But beyond that, it is a different game. You can have a lot of fun modifying a 'vette, but realize that there is no end to what you can do or how much you can spend, and whatever you do, whereever you go, there is always an unattainable "more" farther out. I'm a perfect example. Over the period '02 to '07, I had a ball (but at times, incredible frustation when things did not quite work) modifying an '02 ZO6 to eventually exactly double its stock HP (to 704 RWHP, roughly 800+ flywheel). Low ten second quarter mile on street tires. Still daily driveable.

Problem is, there is always a faster car: I did tens on street tires and high nines on slicks at the track, and someone had a mid nines car that kicked my butt, and one guy had a streetable high eight second Mustang that could put ten lengths on me. if you start down the serious mods route, expect to spent money, have fun, but never get "there."

there is a lesson there. I've just never been sure what it was, because I had so much fun.

I eventually sold the 'vette because the fun as over, and I needed the cash to make the deposit on ordering the Aston I now have. But that is another story .. .

 

The first thing I plan on purchasing is a GMPP. Maintenance wil be performed more often than factory reccomended intervals. I want this vette to last as well as perform for quite some time.

Corvette Masters in Maitland, FL did the inspection on the car prior to my purchase. They came highly reccomended, and they are an authorized GMPP repair center. They checked thecar out ten ways to Sunday. Such things as the intake being removed to see who signed the valley pan, fuel rail leakage, and any hidden damage were all examined for. Nothing was found, and the intake has never been removed. Then the car was put into the air via a lift, and all undecar components were inspected. Again, she passed with flying colors. After a short test time, the techinican politely referred to her as a girl, and said it was one of the nicest/cleanest ones he had seen in a while, especially for an 06 model.

As for mods, the only thing I'd consider is air filter/induction and set of headers. I already am in the process of completing an 8 second, 1700+ HP Trans Am GTA. It started out as a daily driver, and just got worse. I gave up on counting the dollars invested, as it doesn't matter. It was my first real hotrod, and will always remain in my garage. It will be street legal, but just barely. It has a full-cage, and is round-tube chassis from the firewall back. A twin turbo charged &a2w intercooledSBC will sit between the stock frame rails, and a Rossler TH210XHD will put the power to the pavement. Still yes, there will always be something faster than mine-however I can only afford mine. All upgrades were paid for in cash, and nothing financed. So it takes me a little longer to finish. Garage rent is included in the mortgage!

What can you tell me about the different air intake and exhaust systems that are availble for the Z06? I've read about K&N, Vaaram, Halltech, and others for air intake/delivery. Kooks and LG Racing seem to be big for exhaust. Got any experience with any of these or others you might reccommend? Will any of theseand a dyno tune affect an exteded warranty?
