Fan does not turn on with Ac on or off.. Only time fan will run is if I ground it out at the Relay.. Should I change the temp sensor? I have one here from 6 cyl fiero,, is it the same? and where is the Temp switch go on the engine, I cannot locate it.. How many wires go to it

All help is very needed and thank all in advance
This one's a toughie there, ice. Since it does work when bypassed, you need to simulate temp increase to the ECM, to see if it will at any temperature trip the fan, AND, if it does, at what temp it does trip the fan.

You might have to go to a dealer to get this done, unless you can get someone with a USB/ALDL interface to do it for you. If you go to the dealer, make it clear to them that what I've stated here in red, is the ONLY thing that you want done.

It sounds to me there is no power to the relay itself. You should have power to temp sensor at all times on one side when it reaches it set temp it should close the points sending power to the new relay you have installed causing it to close its set of points making the circiut. So I would check to see if you have power @ the sensor if so go to the relay could be bad though it new. Hope this helps Jerry

I have owned my '84 for twelve years. During that time I have replaced two fan switches. The fan switch is located on the passengers side of the car on the top of the engine block. I looks like an oil sending unit. It screws into the block and has an electrical lead running to it.
The fan should come on at 229-230 degrees. It will remain on until the temperature is about 210 degrees. You were right to check to determine if the fan works. Since it does, then the sending unit is bad.
My first replacement switch lasted about a year. The second has been on the car for over 8 years. All replacement parts are not equal.

Good Luck

Since it does, then the sending unit is bad.

Good Luck
Howdy harddrive! Welcome in to the forums!

Is there a chance of a bad ground?

Doesn't reallysound like the problembut the wirescould be off the fan coolant temp. switch under the head about middle ways on pass side of engine. But then again It could be that part which isn't expensive .
Last would bethe computer.

well, I attempted to get the temp sensor out of the head on the passnger side... it wont budge and I am afraid if I try to untighten it more,, I will further strip the and damage the top ,

I think it is time to go to the toggle switch,,,

I also have another problem... When I start the car, the dig dash does its thing testing,, When I am driving, all lights on dash work, but I do not get any readings. only when I first start car..

My speedo reads 0 and my tach reads 0.. but the fuel gauge works...

Help
