Default Metal valve-stem caps

At a recent visit to a local tires (only) center, I was told by an experienced tire tech to NEVER use metal valves-stem caps on the pressure sensors. He said that they can cause damage to the sensors due to being easily over-tightened, can expand and contract with temp, and that he has seen much more damage to tire pressure sensors with metal caps than with plastic. He urged me to take off my metal caps and put on the plastic ones (that he gave me at no cost).
Anyone else hear of this?

I've had several vehicles that came w/ metal caps on the TPMS. If they were harmful, the factory would've quit using them. Even the replacements came w/ metal caps.
