Default 1986 corvette

I have a 1986 corvette TPI that I want to get some more horsepower out of. I was told if I put a high performance cam I will need to have some one build me a new chip for it because it is TPI. is this true and how much trouble will it be?

Welcome to the forum.

Computer controlled engines are sensitive to mechanical changes (cams, CR, intake, headers, etc) and most likely would require new programming to get the most benefit from the change(s).
