Default 1994 Corvette

Hi I am a new member. Purchased a 1994 Corvette couple of years ago.................. Love it !

I am experiencing a problem with a backfire, which sounds like it is coming from under the car, when I accelerate.
Also the " check engine "light comes on only when I accelerate up hill or it is under load.

A local garage have checked the codes and all seems well. Just changed the EGR Valve but that did not help.
Could it be that my Catalytic Convert/s are plugged ?

Anybody run into this problem before ?

My experiance with a plugged Cat, is a loss of power. Ya just can't get the exhaust gasses out fast enough. Try exhaling through a small straw, then use a toilet paper tube, you'll get the idea.
"Backfire" and "outfire" are usually the result of the timing being off.

( a collapsed lifter, weak valve spring, bent push rod,or a warped valve do goofy things too )

Watch oil pressure and check oil level. My suspect on the engine light during accelleration and a load.

Don't forget to change oil, filters ( air, oil and fuel ), top off tranny and rear. Complete chasis lube, front and rear. Top off all other fluids too. P/S, rad/antifreeze, brake fluid, and washer. Ya might think about flushing your cooling system and replacing with fresh antifreeze anda new thermostat. Same temp rating, just a new one.Inspect all lines and hoses for signs of weakness, cracking,or leakage.

Can't wait to see pics.

Good advise but the first thing I did was flush cooling system, replace Thermostat, replace air filter and change oil ( Synthetic of course Mobil 1 ).
I like the idea of tuning the puppy up.

Thanks Guys ............ this is going to be a great site to learn more about my Vette.
