Default Corvette Newbie!

Hello,

I am hoping to joing the Corvette scene soon. I sold my 06 Mustang GT. I hope to get a C-3 to restore and build to my own spec. I guess the C-3s are my dream car. I really like the 77 s but I want a Big Block under the hood. Another reason I want to restore one becsaue I wouldnt want to destroy a perfect good orginal Corvette. so if you know of one or have one tell me.

Thanks
Todd

Ebay is your friend for cheaper cars in need of a little TLC. I paid about $5k for mine (a mostly original 81) with shipping. Starship can give you some good info about transplanting a big block into a small block c3, I am sure he will chime in. There are some great crate motors out there (Jegs, Jasper, GM Performance, etc.), and a fresh big block can be had for $4-5k pretty well dressed out. You can also do a rebuild, or build your own fairly easy (short block and bolt-on kits). Personally, I like to buy something that isn't too far from a driver, and then make the changes over time. If you consider a big block swap, you can drive it with the original motor while you build/buy the new lump and wait for parts. Waiting on parts, and finding out that you have to wait again for a different size thingie is the hardest part...

bill.

I have been on ebay alot. The only thing is I am afraid of getting one that looks nice but the frame is rusted to hell. I want a good frame to start with because I plan to strip it and powdercoat it. My goal is to build it to last both body and performance. I want to rust proof as much as I can. I loved my mustang but it didn't like to be beat on. (4.6 too small to begin with) I plan on having fun driving it and run a mid 11 second 1/4.

Welcome to CF, Todd!
I too, am building a C3 "my way". I started with a non numbers matching car so that no one would give me grief about de-valuing a classic.
There are some real sharp people here, so if ya got any questions, ask away.
The C3 forum is full of great info. [sm=icon_rock.gif]

Try www.corvettetrader.com, lots of Vettes available.

I do have a question for ya. How do C-3s handle stock? How about you car? I am not a corner carver but I dis-like body roll and love tight steering and knowing what the car is going to do. I am young so feeling every bump in the road is still cool for me. If you dont mind me asking how much was the suspension kit you have C3 Starship?

Also added new trailing arm assemblies, complete to the rotors.
Ya, she rides a little rough. That ride can be adjusted out if ya want.
She handles like she's painted on the road. No body roll. Flat and fast as hell in the twisties.
