HI !! I'm new member ;)
Hi! My name is Mathew and a few days ago I decided to change my automotive world. I have been passionate about cars from an early age, but so far I have limited myself to German cars. However, a few days ago I decided to try to make my dream come true in the USA, or more precisely with the subject of debates on this forum - the Chevy Corvette. I love coupes, sports cars, with beautiful shapes. His choices are guided by emotions and heart, and in the long run by cool head and reason, so there could only be one choice - the C6 model. Usually, on various forums, people present the cars they already own and their further development. I decided to start from the beginning. I'm a complete amateur when it comes to Corvettes (apart from the basics that I've read about), which is why I decided to join your community to delve deeper into the topic and, above all, for you to guide me in choosing the right one. Please advise me which engine, transmission and year of production to choose, so that the car will serve me for years. I will add that I want a Vette with the LS2 6.0 or LS3 6.2 engine, only in the targa body. I hope you will share your experience and mature advice with me. I apologize in advance for my limited knowledge and understanding of the subject. Greetings to you and I am asking for tips, suggestions and information
I am glad that I can be here with you and slowly enter this wild world of the American car icon.

There's no wrong choices here. It really depends on what you want. Start by taking a few different ones on test drives. Do you prefer an automatic or manual? Try both! Look for low mileage, and unmodified. Most modded cars have been beat on. Avoid wrecked cars unless you can see before and after pictures. If you want to do mods do it, but know what you are starting with. And know what is legal in your area.
I prefer a manual transmission, but I heard that the differentials in these cars get damaged. In automatic transmissions, there is no such problem. I also heard that the 6.0 engine is based on a cast iron block, while the 6.2 and others are based on an aluminum block, so their durability and modifications are lower.
I don't understand why anyone would say the aluminum block is less durable. As far as the rear axle being damaged by a manual transmission, I would have to disagree with pointing a finger at the transmission and instead point it at the loose nut behind the wheel.
After all,it is easier to abuse a manual transmission car.

If I had to choose I would Go for the C-8 because of the advancements in the car. Price drops a lot in the used versions. I transmission does not matter, automatics are faster, Ran 18 speeds in oversize pickups for years, can't say I really miss shifting and there is no speed shifting. My brother had a 05 6.2 six speed I drove and compared to a C-3 or 4 it drove like a cadillac. Lots of different versions most are all good if taken care of, buy the one that's most pricital. I think..
