Hello, I'm looking at buying a 66 with a removable hard top and roll bar. Were roll bars a factory option? It's a project and I can't ask the owner. Thanks

66 Good year. My brother bought a 66 years back that had front fender damage, he fixed it and then sold it. It was Black with Black leather seats BB to I believe. I wanted it. As far as I know GM never built roll bars for public sale, maybe for their race cars. Years back you either built the bar or there were companies that made bolt in bars. I'm not sure what's available today. If you wanted a bolt in bar maybe a 4 point bar i'm sure a fabricator could build you one to bolt in.

 

I don't believe the removable hard top came out until '68. If you are looking at this car purely for personal enjoyment then go for it. The rest doesn't matter.
HOWEVER, if you are thinking I can fix this up, have a little fun and make bank, think again. Top dollar means numbers matching correct, and a roll bar suggests that this car has been working as a racer, and highly modified. Hopefully there's enough left to make a nice car out of. I've never seen a removable hard top for a C2, it would be interesting to know who made it. Do you have any pictures?

 

I have seen C-2 hardtops but i'm not sure of there Origins. Factory or aftermarket? One disadvantage of a roll bar is you need to cut holes into the deck lid for the roll bar. Same on a C-3 if its professionally done it doesen't look bad, but can be done. It's a lot of work drilling thru the body and mounting it to the frame, eather by bolting or welding. That's true most high dollar C-2s are numbers matching. or Costom builds with almost all LS parts installed bring big money also if they are done Tastefuly. Roll bars for racing need to be installed to there specs. keep that in mind if you go racing. they need to mounted a certain way with a small hole drilled into it to show thickness so you don't use exhaust tubing. So if you plan to race it with SCCA or IMSA they have there specs. Street use and autocross different rules if any.
