Where do I park my Z06?
Where do you guys park when you go to the store/mall/whatever? I've been
parking out away from the entrance but not way way out. It still seems like people will park right next to me even though there are plenty of empty spaces that are much closer to the entrance. I'm afraid to park way way out as this seems like it is inviting some envious vandal to do something stupid to my car. There's no way that I'm going to take up two spaces or park at an odd angle. This seems like an open invitation for a big ol' wad of chew (yeah, where I live guys chew tobacco) or something worse to end up on my car. Last week I stopped at the auto store to pick up a few things. I figured I'd only be in there for five minutes or so. There is parking on two sides of the store and I parked on the side opposite of the entrance. There were at least six spots open on the side right in front of the door. I parked with an open space to my right (away from the entrance) and three open spaces to my left. My heart sunk when I walked out. There sat a beater 4x4 with tires as high as my windshield right next to my drivers side. I didn't see any dings but it made me really think. How do I avoid these dolts? Can I really keep my vette from getting dinged up? All of my other vehicles (OK I admit that I also have a four wheel drive truck) have door dings and scratches. |

People just don't give a $hit.[:@] I try to park in the last stall, with no parking on one side or the other, and then I park far to one side in hopes that some idiot won't cram up next to me. You can't control the "Public". No respect is a sign of our times, it's all ME, ME, ME and to hell with the other guy.:eek: Sorry Dude, that's just the way it is. Maybe have a Bud go with you to keep watch (with a baseball bat). You scratch mine, I'll dent yours. (But then that don't work either, people are sue crazy)

I always park with a curb to one side & hug it, or next to a handicap cuz you can get close to it & leave lots of room on the other side. Like you, I've had lots of spaces on the side of me then some beat up old car/truck parks right next to me, maybe they park there to check it out...I dunno. If I'm meeting someone, they park next to me that way I'm protected. Just saw a dumb 350Z parked up front right in the middle of 2 spaces, to me that's just asking for it! Lil 16 y.o. friend got a brand new mercedes & within 2 weeks someone keyed it in a parking lot, that's my fear! Oh well, we can't dwell on it, just be courteous & cautious when ya park!

No, seriously, I completely share your fears there.. I have found no "ultimate" solution either to the dilema... if ya take up more than one spot, yer askin' for it... if you park in the boonies, yer askin' for it... like Richard said it's a lose-lose situation. I take each parking lot on it's own setup, and scan it for the best place to be... but, that hardly ever really works. I REALLY hate it, too, when you park in a lot that's 99% empty, way outta the way, and come out to see some weasel parked next to you. The hair on the back of my neck always stands up.... |

I park where ever I can and just leave Coty, my 16 pound Resus Mequeac monkey in the car with the windows cracked just enough for him to get his long arms out. anybody gets close enough to the car hell grab'em and hangon til I come out. better than a big dog. hell he's got four hands that are like vicegrips. you aint gonna get awy. ya just have to look out for the land mines people leave when he grabs there a$$ for gettin' to close. He's cheap too just give him some Chicken McNuggets, fries and a diet coke and he's good to go.

I don't worry too much about door dings, etc., although I suspect Riley's worry about parking next to beaters is unfounded: I suspect that whether you get a door ding or not depends on the other person's respect or admiration for your car than the condition of theirs. The guy (and I bet it was a guy) driving the beater 4x4 probably cared about cars or at least respected another guys ride. The risk is probably higher from some dizzy soccer Mom with a herd of kids in her new Lexus van who just could not give a sh** and can't control the kids every minute anyway.
All that being said, I never select parking places to try to stay away from other cars (to avoid dings, etc.) -- I figure its hopeless. I select them carefully, thought, for: - protected on one side -- next to a divider, tree, column or light pole (now I have to be careful parking), etc. Reduces the risk - defense: some parking spots are just asking for someone to back into them, or zip around a blind spot and plaster you, etc. I never park on the end of a row, etc. I've had one serious parking lot accident where my car was parking in a slot just asking for someone not paying attention to slam into the rear fender -- and they did! - theft: I try to leave my car where it is very visible to traffic, etc-- less tempting for thieves or vandals to work on it out in the open |

He wears a diaper so he can't sling poo. but he's so damn cute setting there that everyone just wants to hold him. It's just like starship said though...He's a sneaky little bugger and lulls you in but that's when the screaming and hooting starts and when he get's hold of someone the almost always mess their breaches. You shpould see what happens when he gets hold of one of the cats....little prevert. the look on the cats face is priceless. Never the less, he is a good "watch dog" in a parking lot. when ever I come out there's always a crowed and you can tell who got to close because the are walking funny shaking their leg from the extra load the are carrying in their drawers and everybody else is laughing their butts off.

TS, we have two here's the little one, Holly, she is a black cap squarl monkey from brazil. I got her in Oklahoma two years ago. she is 5 years old and weighs about 1 lb. shes not much of a watch monkey though she just likes to eat gummie bears and hang out. she sits on the dash like a little bobble head.

Good LORD, George, those lil' guys are durned cute! Did you guys have any problems in acquiring them? I always understood that getting monkeys as pets is a bit of an undertaking. Is this something you guys do professionally, or is it a hobby? They are so cute there, my friend... are they friendly? I'd imagine so. Huh!! You've got me real curious here this morning now, George!

I saw a guy go by on a motorcycle once that had one of them goomers standin' on the gas tank with his hands on the center post of the handle bars. Even had a little helmet and jacket. He was leanin' forward, into the wind. Looked funny:D, but cool too!;)

They are our babies. we are trying to get Holly a boyfriend so we can have some babies. Most states have regulations concerning Primates and Exotics. TN. had a law suit some time back and their statutes were fond to be unconstitutional. they never redid them so now there is no law concerning the keeping of Primates and Exotics. I have a picture of Coty on a '68 Harley somewhere. we have a friend that owns a music store here in town and she has to Cougars(Bis A$$ mountian lions) in the back of her store. Them suckers are huge. Hate to be the dumba$$ burgler that breaks in there. some times she carries one of them around in her daughter's suberban. talk about parkinglot security. park too close and hear it roar. Great googley moogley!

I saw a Mountain Lion in the wild, like about 30, 40 yds away. I was on a log skidder, but it still sent a chill up my spine. I think I was near a den or it would have run off long before I got there, log skidders are real noisy. I have come across bears too!
It'd scare me to death to be walkin' between cars and see the head of a Lion rise up in a window, SHEEESH! I'd be jumpin' over the next two cars in one leap and not even brush the dust off the paint! I don't think I coould have a pet that could eat me if I pi$$ed it off! |

we were at her store once and she asked me to help her feed them. she wanted me to stand in the yard so they would come out of their den and she could load them up with chicken. Iwas the bait and even though there was a fence between us it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. hate to meet one on the ground in the wild. saw a black panther from a tree stand in florida once. and some tiny black bears while on a bike ride in NC. even got charged by a spikehorn buck on that same ride.

I thought that since I was at work it would be ok since I didn't think that a co-worker would be careless. I was wrong. When I went out at lunch the truck was gone. But, he left a nice scratch in my passenger door. I tracked down the owner of the only large white truck (with a cap on the back) that was in the parking lot. He admitted that he had moved his truck to a different parking space when he went out to lunch but when I told him about the scratch he denied being parked next to me. I guess that there's not much that I can do now is there? I let the vette sit in the garage at home for two days while I mourned. Today I drove it to work again. I parked four rows away from the door and took up two spaces. There are at least two dozen parking spaces that are closer to the door. If anyone messes with the car today then my next post to this forum will be from prison :( |

Riley, Sorry to hear that. Is there a security camera on the parking lot? cameras don't lie. I will never know how any one that makes car payments can be so thoughtless as to slam their door into someone elses car. Inconsiderate, self absorbed, respectless, waisted pieces of human flesh breathing good air. even if it's a Ugo, It's somebody elses.

I look at it this way.... When I park I do so away from all others, when I return and if somebody is close next to me I do the visual If I see damage that I know they caused I call the police and let them deal with it. Only happened once.

Yup, I'm sure that's alot of it too. either way it's not right and I always say something when I see it happen and twice I took down the culprits tag number and left it on the victems car in hopes that it would help. I have been on the recieving end of this phenomenon before.
