Good morning everyone,

I am having the rack and pinion on my 85 vette replaced while it's up on the rack getting the transmission rebuilt. Do I need to get a front end alignment after the rack is replaced? I'm sure that this is an absurd question but I've heard it both ways so I don't know. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I would get one. They are not much money and you can usually sit and wait for them to get done. You never know what all they will remove to make the rack and pinion install easier.

that's what I thought too. Thanks for the recommendation.

Definitely get it aligned....while you're replacing the rack...throw new tie rods on it too. There are two different Rack and pinion units available. A standard ratio and a sport ratio. Standard ratio is 2 3/4 turns lock to lock and sport ratio is 2 1/4 turns lock to lock. IMO I like the feel of the sport ratio. Both units are interchangeable. AND make double sure that they flush the power stearing system before hooking the hoses up to your new rack. Whatever caused the original rack to die is floating in around in the old fluid.
