Hi everbody,
I had made my first post on here a few weeks ago explaining that i was in the market to buy a C5 Vette some time before Christmas. My wife was on board with me getting a C5 but stipulated NO Z06!!!! So ummm guess what I just picked up????? LOL

The wife was a little upset with me but she will get over it. I have to say, my budget was only 15-17K which would have got me an excellent condtion 97-99 C5 in this area but I was only able to afford this Z06 because its on a salvage title. i know what you're thinking but I spent over 2 hours looking over the car making sure it was just superficial damage and no frame bendage. It needs the door sill/rocker panel replaced, rear fascia replaced and some glass work on both rear wheel wells and i will probably just have them spray the entire car so I'm in for about 5K in body work but thats not too bad considering I got the car for a little over 10k. It has a Borla exhaust that sounds absolutely killer, a short throw shifter by manufacturer unknown, and a CAI kit. 58K miles and the interior is IMMACULATE. So what do you think?

You got a Z06 for $15k. I think that you are going to love this car. And don't worry, you'll find another wife.:)

That was definitely one hell of a deal. And as for the wife , I always say "it is better to ask for forgiveness, than to ask for permission."

Thanks everybody. The wife is a little more okay with it than before. i just took it down and got an estimate and it came in at $4400 and this was at the dealership of all places. At first i was going to go with bargain basement body shop but after talking with the guy at Bob Stall Chevrolet, I wasnt able to bring myself to take it anywhere else. All the other guys in the service department referred to him as the "Corvette Guru" and after talking and him explaining exactly what needed to be done to fix the door sill, i knew I wasnt going to have anybody else work on it but him. I should have it back within the next 2 weeks at which point I'll post up some more pics. so far I'm still right in there with my budget so I'm pretty happy. BTW i did have to take it out and exercise it a little before leaving it at the shop and i absolutely LOVE this car. incredible power (feels like a lot more than 385) and even though its jacked up body is a little embarassing, the car does not fail to turn heads at every light.

update... I just found out that the previous owner had installed a Thunder racing cam with .563-ish lift. its a split pattern and I don't recall the rest of the numbers off the top of my head but... I KNEW it felt like more than 385hp. Previous owner dyno'd it at 372RWHP. I get it backfrom paint and body right after thenew year. its immediately getting a small shot and some slicks and then off to the track to get me some numbers. I couldnt be happier with this car!!! it just keeps getting better and better.

Good to hear everything is going well, nothing like finding out the previous guy spent some money you won't have too. We look forward to seeing your track numbers when you get a chance to run her.

Awesome deal :) Has wife driven it yet? -evil grin- .. my wife went out an got her and I some 'Corvette' hats today, came back all kinda jazzed because some younger guys commented on 'her ride' at a stop light .. oh ya .. she is 'sold' on the Vette :)
