Knuck me if this should be in my old post, but I have heard from my former Auto parts Manager dude that when you paint a fiberglass car (such as a Corvette) you have to add the "right amount" of flex agent or the paint will split and crack because the body flexs. Having worked retail for many years, I understand that sometimes the guys mixing the paint might not know a whole lot about what they are doing and are just following the "ingredients" list. I was wondering if anyone had any insight into buying paint for a Corvette so I can be prepared when I approach "Fred" the mix-it-quick Automotive Paint Specialist...

Flex agent was used in the old paints for the rubber bumpers so it wouldn't crack. I'm not sure if this applies to the newer urathane base/clear because they need hardners and reducers of their own to work. When I painted my T bucket which was fiberglass I just used the base/clear and there was no flex added. Just the hardner and reducer. It's been a while but I'm thinking it was for the lacquer paint which you probably cant get or want to use anymore.

Not positive but I think you still have to use a flex agent with base coat/clear coat urethanes.
