Default 1965 396/425 stamped without VIN

Recently acquired 1965 L78 IF code engine that has what i feel to be a 99.9% legit stamping, but there is no VIN stamping on the pad?I? Also has a very late assembly date of Sept 1, 1965. Other components of engine align with the assembly date, the deck looks original and shows horizontal broach lines..

When did production cease for the 1965 models?..and has anyone ever heard of a Corvette engine not stamped with a VIN?

Welcome to the forum.
Probably the best place to check would be to contact the NCRS or maybe local Corvette club.

Your IF engine with no VIN number and a very late 1965 date would lead mr to believe that this engine is an over the counter engine. It would have been sold as a complete engine to be stamped like that.
