How to quiten C@ Side Pipes
Anyone have any ideas of how to quiten C2 sidepipes. I have a 1965 Vette with350HP 327 and LOUD side pipes. Just too loud for this neighborhood. Any ideas?

The only side exhaust I know of that has an insert is the Hooker Nest of Snakes type. Basically the insert is just a straight through fiberglass muffler that slides into the 4" side pipe.
The mid-year side pipe is basically a straight 2 1/2" pipe that has various areas pinched down to cancel out particular frequencies. Basically a tuned pipe.

I've been around and driven mid-year small block and big block cars with factory side exhaust and at normal residential speeds didn't find them very loud. Are you sure that these are actual factory side pipes? You can tell by checking to see if they have random pinched down areas along the length of the pipe.
If they are factory and are in good condition, both the pipes and the covers are worth some money these days. If you check some of the aftermarket suppliers you will find that they get quite expensive.
