Default 1974 Oil Breather set up

I have a 1974 corvette with the 350. Stock valve covers, 23,000 miles all original, Smog system still on and all. Anyhow this weekend i'm putting on some headers and a new intake and carburator. I need to get an oil breather for the passenger side hole that currently vents into the air filter box. However, All sizes of the air breathers that i can find all are 1 1/4.. and they are to big. Anyone know how to set it up to work? or do they make one that fits the current opening? What size is the current opening? Anything would help.. Thanks.

Hi 1974redvette and welcome to the forum. Most auto parts stores have grommets in all sizes you'll find one that fits the valve cover and the tube, you just have to search a little, PG.

The gromet isn't the problem, I can find that easily. My problem is finding a oil breather/filter that is not 1 1/4" diameter. That seems to be the standard but is to big! I'm sure i could drill it out to make it a bit bigger, but looking for an easier solution..

I'm assuming that you don't want the stock setup with the pipe to the air cleaner housing into a filter there?

Hi again, sorry I misunderstood, I have after market valve covers with the stock metal tube and I use a Purolator filter # B20009. Is that the part you need? PG.

Yes, I am putting on an aftermarket air filter set up above the new carb and want to get rid of the return tube to the air cleaner. So, best way to do it is the breather, but can't figure out how to fit the normal one in... my only other idea is to somehow leave the stock tube in place with a new filter on the end of it...

Ok, now I understand. Tell the forum which brand of air cleaner you bought and someone who has that one will tell you how to hook it up, PG.

Most aftermarket air cleaner bases have a hole pre-stamped in the metal for the oil vent hose. All you have to do is punch it out and hook up the 90* adapter that usually comes supplied with the air cleaner.
