1978-82 hood measurements question ..
Just so you know, I'm very unfamiliar with terms, parts etc., and I'll try to make as much sense as possible. Anyway, my question is; Do all Corvette models from 1978-1982 have the same body style/dimensions? I'm aware that the blinker lights change, the back lights change, and that the side scoops (?) change as well. But, does the body arch above the wheels (I hope you know what I'm trying to say) stay the same?? Or, have they added a few inches here or there in different places throughout the 78-82 years? Let me know if I need to clarify what I mean.
Thanks for any help.

Hi SFrancis and welcome to the forum. Good question, I think the fender flares were changed a little around 69 or 70 but after that I think the dementions are the same. The hood got a little longer after 72 when GM gave uo on the wiper door. What ate you trying to figure out? PG

RE: 1978-82 hood measurements question ..
Thanks for the responses .. much appreciated. Great forum by the way.
Anyway, I'm looking to buy a Vette from 78-82. I just found a site I needed with all the exact dimensions for each year.
Is there anything I should know when considering buying a Vette within those years? Any reasons for, or against buying a certain year?
Thanks in advance.

Hi again, 75 and later came with a metal floor, so check how bad it's rusted, and a single exhaust thru a catalytic converter. You may need that if your state is strict on inspections. PG

I highly reccomend that you put your prospective buy on a rack and do an undercarrage inspecton. ( or jack it up and put it on stands )Look real close at the bushings in the rear, and tie rod ends. A high milage car will prob need some suspension and steering work. Inspect the exhaust system and look for any rust developement on all surfaces. Push and pull on the tops, bottoms, and sides of the wheels to check for any looseness. Have a Bud help ya out here, so one of ya can move and wiggle things while you look at mounting points, and all connections.Look for any dents in the frame, floorboards, exhaust system, and all other surfaces. There is more to a car than just the paint and interior.
Oh ya, inspect the engine and tranny for any signs of leaks.
Enjoy your search, be picky, and most of all, enjoy your new Baby.
