1980 L82
To the best of my knowledge, the L-48 has a 2 bolt main block and the L-82 has a 4 bolt main.
....and, a vin with xxxx6xxxxxxx is an L-82, the8 is an L-48, and an "H" is the LG-4 with a 305 cid V-8.

In '73, the L82 fifth digit was a T. The L82 also has the big valve heads, at least in '73 it did. Did the '80 model still have the data plate on the console? I realize that these are easily changed.
Hi deb1, here's the info from the interchange manual, 1980 305cid will have H in the fifth digit on the enging pad. 1980-1981 350cid L82 the fifth digit will be 6, 1979-1980 350cid L48 the fifth digit will be 8. Also the 78-79 L82 had an aluminum intake from the factory. The block is the same for all the 350's but you can get a good idea if it's a four or two bolt by the engine casting number above the bell housing on the drivers side. Internals are pretty much the same with the exception valve size and cam, the book shows the compression ratio to be the same for the L48 and the L82 in 1980 @ 9 to1. Write back with your engine pad and casting numbers and we can narrow it down.
