Default 350 Rebuild

Me and a friend are giving a 77 vette some attention this winter. One of the things were doing is pulling the engine (l48), rebuilding it and adding some upgrades to give it a little more power. I thought i'd post what we were planning on doing and see what you guys thought. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Kinda on a budget cause we have other things planned too so I think were going to leave the heads alone for now. So here goes....

it all looks good..but i would go with the rpm air gap intake..same rpm range but you wil get more top end and has the air gap for cooling......how much comp you going with...are you useing a flat top or dome piston what are the cc of you combustion chambers.....you might need a different cam.....with that kind of combo. let me no i can guid you in the right way to go...how much extra hp do you want and how streetable.

Noticed in the notes for the rpm air gap intake :"Will not fit under stock hood of Corvette." So I'm guessing that one is ruled out

Not too sure about the comp to be honest with you, was going to talk to a friend at work about it this week, I was thinking 9.x:1? Chambers are listed at 75cc. We're not going for anything crazy fast but I was hoping to hit somewhere in the 250-300hp range. Not really sure if what I have listed will make it close to that or not since the stock it only pushing 180hp.

Thanks for the help king.

YA I THOUGHT THAT THE RPM WAS TOO TALL...THAT SUCKS....IF YOU KEEP IT 10 TO 1 COMP...WITH A LITTLE BIGER LIFT THAN THE CAM U PICKED...AND SOME 1.5 ROCKERS OR YOU CAN KEEP THE CAM YOUR GETTING AND GET 1.6 ROLLERS ROCKERS AND THAT WILL BRING YOUR LIFT TO 285....THE HEADS IS WERE ALL YOUR POWR IS DO YOU NO IF YOU HAVE 202 OR 194 VALVES.

Searched around and found this if it helps...

Stock L48 cam specs are: Intake: 195 Duration @ .050" , Lift .390" Exhaust: 202 Duration @ .050" , Lift .410" Lobe Seperation 112
Actually talked to my friend briefly today and he was thinking most likely flat top pistons with the comp somewhere in the 9.0:1 to 9.8:1 range.

If you use Flowmaster's 50 series mufflers with the 2 1/2" pipes you will really notice the difference in preformance.

A project detailed in the 2004 issue of Chevy High Performance, laid to rest the 4/7 cam switch. Bottom line was there was essentially no difference.

Don't know if all piston mfg. do this, but when I rebuilt my L82, the TRW catalog delineated what the CR was with each piston and combustion chamber volume. I used the 11:1 pistons and got about 10:1 with the stock '73 L82 heads which were 9:1 with the original flattop pistons.
