RE: 72 motor 77 vette
Thanks 78Buckshot. I figured it out. The tach wire needed to be hooked up to the tach out put spot on the MSD!, works like a charm. So I have accomplished quite a bit. I have working Tach, gas, temp, oil!! I still have nothing registering on the volt meter, thats just a ground right? On the flip side, my break light is constantly on now, never even worked before, so I guess I need to track that down. I have to tell you guys these forums are great, very helpful.

I believe there is a switch in the brake proportioning valve that will turn on the brake lite indicating an imbalance in pressure. It can be reset by bleeding the brakes. Note: The service manual says to hold in the rubber boot during brake bleeding.
I assume you are referring to the lite that comes on when you set the parking brake.

The wiring schematic I have for my year shows two wires for the volt gage, black is ground for all the gages, pink/black is the hot side to read voltage and runs from the main fuse block to the center gage cluster, check the foil on your printed cicuit for cracks, make sure the gage is mounted correctly, the fuse is marked "GAGES" on the block and should be a 10 amp. The brake light problem may be at the switch thats activated by the brake peddle, check that first, or it could be mis-wired given the history of the rest of the electrical system.

Thanks 73shark, I did'nt even think of the brake warning light, your right about re-centering the proportioning valve or it could be the parking brake switch is grounded or needs adjustment.
