74 NOT RUNNING VERY WELL
My 74 has a
350 engine with 650 Holley DP, 4 speed and points.
Car starts ok and engine revs good at a stop.
First noticed problem when I let up on the gas, car starts bucking,
mostly in 4th gear.
Now it appears that the bucking is in all gears even under excelleration.
I hit the pedal hard today in first gear to see what would happen.
When the secondaires kicked in the car bogged down and ran like a semi.
I need some help on where to start looking for this one.
Electrical or mech?
Thanks in advance,
Schoon

Yup, sounds like ignition to me. Make sure the points are good, re-set the dwell and go from there, The timing shouldn't change on it's own but you'll want to check it after setting the dwell.

I'd also check the fuel filter. Pull it out and tap the inlet on a piece of wood to see if any crud comes out. Other than that, I think 78buckshot is on the right track.[/align]

Hi Schoon, How did the paint job come out? Did you go with black?
And for todays problem: 2 votes for Ingition and 2 for carb!
You do have the points gaped correctly? Dwell and timing correct?
New rotor, cap, and the springs and weights are working properly, so then tell us about the carb, new or rebuilt or second hand? And hows the vaccume? PG

RE: 74 NOT RUNNING VERY WELL
I will be checking things out as soon as the temp around here cools down.
I will be checking out all of the things recomended to me.
The carb looks like it's in good shape buts that what I said last time when my problem turned out to be leaking secondary jets.
I think while I am at it I will get rid of the points and go electronic.
As for the paint I didn't get to the Vet, ran out of cash.
I did paint the Camaro, the color is GM 2003 Electron Blue Pearl.

RE: 74 NOT RUNNING VERY WELL
If you are thinking of going the electronic ignition route, save your money and buy a new HEI from Summit. They have one that has a tach drive now. I just bought one for my 69 and put the original distributor in a box.
